Sustainable Development

All Upton houses usually have similar sustainability measures, but they are done through a combination of different methods and techniques (see Table 1). In addition, some homes are carbon neutral or BREEAM code 6 (Figure 3). Combined with regional measures, each specific Upton building achieves the smallest BREEAM rating equivalent to the 3rd or 4th generation of sustainable housing code (Community and Local Government, 2006). BREEAM's evaluation is achieved through a comprehensive approach to planning layout and green building design including environmental technologies such as solar cells, integrated insulation materials, solar hot water systems, microphones.

Today, the concept of development has become a new mask and meets the requirements of sustainable development. In 1987, the World Environment Development Committee (WCED) promoted the term sustainable development in the use of environmental resources. The term "sustainable development" was promoted by the United Nations-sponsored World Environment Development Committee (aka the Burundando committee). This report defines sustainable development as "the ability to meet current needs without sacrificing the ability to meet future generations' needs". Our view should be comprehensive. All resources used in each plan must be considered lifecycle. As the MTBE example shows adequately, even the good things we do for part of the environment can have a negative impact on another part. Sustainability allows us to consider our work based on future results, good or bad. Therefore, our modern environmental ethics broaden the environmental awareness of space and time.

Economic, social and environmental factors are necessary for sustainable development, and each element must be "sustainable" before the whole system becomes sustainable. The concept of "sustainable development" provides a direction of development that will fulfill human needs for a better life while protecting the resources of the earth and its life support system. Sustainable development also has various aspects. In terms of space, sustainable development is a global problem. Individual isolated sustainability will not automatically lead to world sustainability while encouraging action in the field. Regarding time, sustainable development has been going on for generations. Consideration on economic, social and environmental happiness is not limited to present but includes future generations.
