In order for us to support our daily lives, we need to consume food to meet the nutritional needs of the body. As the world's population increases, food demand will also increase. The increase in population leads to mass production of food. However, even in the case of large scale production, people are still malnourished in developing countries. On the other hand, in developed countries and developing countries, people are overworked and suffer from obesity. In addition, the current industrial agricultural method weakens the environment.

By 2050, food demand for 7 billion people worldwide will increase by 70% compared to today. How will nutritionally and sustainably nourish the world's population? The food system currently does not provide nutritious food to the world's population in an environmentally sustainable way. Nearly 800 million people are malnourished, 2 billion people are overweight or obese. At the same time, food production, transportation, processing and waste are putting sustainable pressure on environmental resources. (World Economic Forum)

The transformation of food sustainability is the process of transformation necessary for a sustainable food system to move forward. Digitization is one of the most important ongoing transformation processes in the agriculture and food chain of the world. This review document explores the contribution of information and communication technology (ICT) to the shift to sustainability (production, processing, distribution, consumption) in the food chain. Special attention is paid to precision agriculture as a food production model integrating many ICTs. ICT can promote sustainable change in agricultural foods by improving resource productivity, reducing inefficiencies, reducing management costs, and improving food chain coordination. This article also explains the shortcomings of ICT and factors that restrict its use in agriculture.

Transition to sustainability of agriculture and food systems: the role of information and communication technology

The food system is at the center of the agenda for sustainable development 2030, a historical global commitment to eradicating poverty and hunger while ensuring a healthy, rich and fulfilling life. The food we grow, harvest, process, trade, transport, store and consume is an essential link between people, prosperity and the planet. In order to achieve food security, it is necessary to secure sustainable use of natural resources and reduce the environmental impact of food system activities. Resource transition to smart food system is the basis for achieving this goal
