Susanna on the beach talks to Herbert Gold about the virtue story of character worship. This is in sharp contrast to the bad habit of character consumption. The depiction of the main character Susan is portrayed as embodying seven "heavenly destiny" including chastity, abstinence, diligence, perseverance, kindness, humility, and charity. Other letters in the story visualize seven "deadly sins" including desire, bulimia, laziness, anger, jealousy, pride and greed. Herbert Gold depicts the theme of virtue and vice by using the literal means of the beach Suzanna, the explanation of Daniel's letter and the Susa's biblical quotation.
