Sun Software Acquisition

This acquisition raised concerns for Sun's own software community as it is afraid of being abandoned by Oracle's portfolio. All of the reasons related to Sun's Project Kenai, OpenSolaris, open source projects of application servers and portals, and NetBeans IDE are concerned as future growth and progress will depend on Oracle's progress decisions. Of course, discarding these technologies and procedures implicitly reduces labor. However, the positive factor in the overall acquisition involves adding potential competitive advantage to Oracle in that it can create vertical applications. This is currently not possible for IBM and HP.

The acquisition of Sun Microsystems by Oracle in 2010 is one of Oracle's largest and most important acquisitions so far. As we all know, Sun Microsystems is a major leader in computers, computer components, computer software, development environment and information technology services. Java is the most important product of Sun Microsystems and is free software. Approximately 40% of the world's application development uses Java as the encoding language. Portability of Java always helps to create cross-platform products. After acquisition, Oracle changed the Java version to a paid version, so we were able to gain more profit from the enhancement, but there was also a negative effect as customers got used to the free version. This is advantageous for customers such as Microsoft's Dot Net and IBM mainframe. In order to attract old customers, Oracle decided to release a free version of Java. Oracle will use this decision to build trust in Java and other products again.

In 2009, Oracle made one of the biggest acquisitions. This was one of the most popular acquisitions at the time. Oracle acquired Sun Microsystems for £ 6.2 billion. Oracle took over Sun's computer software, development environment, and information technology services, further enhancing the presence in the market. With this acquisition of Sun, Oracle uses Java as the front end and midrange, uses Database as the back end and Web logic as the server, so it is a one stop solution for all web applications. Oracle can provide any application solution that customers may need.

OOo is one of the numerous open source software projects acquired by Oracle when it acquired Sun. OOo has long been plagued by governance issues and the friction between enterprise stakeholders. Sun's copyright transfer policy and the bureaucratic code review process severely hindered the participation of the community in the project. After the acquisition of Sun, Oracle refused to resolve these problems, failed to collaborate with the OOo community in a transparent and open way, further exacerbating friction.
