0 INTRODUCTION Water is an important resource for human survival. It occupies about two thirds of the surface of the earth and has a volume of about 4 billion cubic centimeters. About 97% of the water on Earth is salt water from the sea. And there are only a few percent of freshwater directly consumed by humans. Freshwater resides in lakes, rivers, reservoirs and groundwater sources, some of which are shallow and can be drilled at reasonable cost. Because more than 2 billion people worldwide can not access clean drinking water, no excessive emphasis is necessary even without portable drinking water (UNDP, 2006).
