Structural orthopedic therapy and comparative treatment focusing on solution focused treatment focused on the whole family.

Structural theory argues that focus should be on background problems and solutions rather than individuals. It focuses on family interactions to understand the structure and organization of the family. The theory consists of three main concepts: family structure, family subsystems and boundaries. "The structure of the family represents administrative rules that influence how the family interacts" (Goldenberg & Goldenberg, 2000, p.198). It provides an understanding of long-term patterns of internal development of the family to maintain stability in changing circumstances (Goldenberg & Goldenberg, 2000). Family structure is governed by two sets of constraints, general rule and special rule.

Structure family theory (SFT) and intervention are often used for mesoscale evaluation and intervention. That theory is trying to regain its structure to the family. That theory focuses on the structure of the family. Family composition is a concept that refers to rules that are often intangible and obvious, which organize the way the family talks. With this type of intervention, social workers are very informative, directing families directly to solve problems. During the SFT intervention, the practitioner often uses role playing and roll diversion. Role-playing is the development of a possible family situation designed to coordinate exchanges with families. The goal of role transition is to make families sensitive to the feelings of other families. In addition, family emotion system theory is also used. The theory provides a wide range of intervention strategies and social workers can use the technology based on family-specific concerns.

Like other theories, structured family therapy has received many criticisms. This theory pays more attention to intergenerational power issues than paying more attention to the power issues that arise during modern internal relations such as spousal abuse. In addition to this criticism, some people say that this treatment includes only members of the nuclear family, ignoring the interaction of other factors such as large families, social institutions, neighbors etc. The last criticism is unexplained because the salient features of structured family therapy focus on the impact of social life and institutional situation on family life.
