Macintosh (Mac) computers constitute Apple's strategic business unit (SBU) in the PC industry. This SBU is disadvantageous in terms of cost because it is more expensive to manufacture than other PCs (WS 16) that use similar or identical components. There is little opportunity for growth at reasonable cost (WS 16). Also, the market has not grown, conversely, the market has declined (WS 16). In 2011, Apple accounted for 10.7% of the PC market (Chart 3). From 2010 to 2011, Mac sales increased by 22%, far below the growth of iPad and iPhone (Figure 2).
