Statistical Differences in Anxiety

Statistics are used in all areas of life and contain a lot of information. Individuals must understand and interpret the statistics that they are seeing accurately. Statistical anxiety has been shown to be detrimental to the academic performance of students receiving higher education. In this case study, we shared the use of curriculum and evaluation design, and peer-to-peer education to alleviate a small percentage of the statistical anxiety of traditional undergraduate business statistics students of private universities in the Midwest. "Recognition of the importance of statistical literacy by democratic citizens has increased the number of programs that provide undergraduate students essential statistical courses" (Chew & Dillon, 2014), p.1 so that this study It is interesting for business school students. This study used pre / post test designs to complete the statistical rating scale (STARS) tool at the beginning and end of a 23 year old undergraduate commercial statistics course taught in a traditional classroom environment.

According to Onwuegbuzie (2003), the statistical anxiety rating scale (STARS) developed by Cruise, Cash, and Bolton (1985) is the most commonly used measure of statistical anxiety. STARS uses a 5-point reaction scale consisting of 51 items representing 6 subscales.
