Statement of Purpose for Nursing at Stony Brook University

As I was a little girl, my motivation to career in the medical field is obvious. Although other kids of my age have seen a network of cartoons, I suspect that it is more valuable in programs like 'scratches: emergency room life' or 'baby's story' think. I decided to become a nurse until high school. I can not say that there are revelations or specific experiences that have influenced my decisions. However, since I started my career with nursing, everyday I understood what I am doing in this world.

The first step in becoming a pharmacologist is to obtain a bachelor's degree from an accredited university. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics recommends biological science degrees, but several universities like Stony Brook University School of Medicine offer 4 years of pharmacology courses. Courses vary from school to school, but typical courses include biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, cell biology, and physiology. Most students will have a bachelor's degree within four years. An ambitious pharmacologist who is not planning to attend medical school needs a doctorate. Specialty fields such as pharmacology, biological science, or pathology and genetics. The doctoral program requires a bachelor's degree for about six years. Students often have the opportunity to support university research projects and sometimes to plan their own experiments. Classroom assignment usually includes cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, and immunology.

New students belong to one of six undergraduate universities established according to the interests of the students. Undergraduates have opportunities for research. Stony Brook University is one of the first research universities in the country to promote undergraduate research. Undergraduate Research Creation Program (URECA) was established in 1987 to integrate research and undergraduate education. It now includes many programs including Battelle Summer Research Program, Beckman Scholarship Program, Undergraduate Website Program Research Experience, and URECA Summer Research Program. Other research centers at Stony Brook include nuclear magnetic resonance facilities, system engineering and integrated laboratory, ground and planetary air research institutes, and visualization laboratories. As you can see from various plans and opportunities, Stony Brook is very focused on research.
