Starfish Prime - Theory or Threat

At 11:00 local time on July 8, 1962, the United States exploded a thermal nuclear warhead with 826 miles from Honolulu, Hawaii and 400 kilometers from Johnston. That night it was a night that many of the people of the Hawaiian Islands never forgot (Berkhouse, 1962). Since the test was encoded by the US military, it caused the first damage to the United States with an electromagnetic pulse generated by a nuclear explosion.
