On May 13, 1939, St. Louis carried 937 passengers trying to escape the influence of the Holocaust, and these effects began to spread throughout Germany. Almost all of these passengers were Jews who escaped the Third Reich. The German trans Atlantic transit ship program departs from Hamburg, Germany, to Havana in Cuba (2).
