Sri Lankan president's anger over airline cashew nuts

Domestic airlines in Sri Lanka had problems with the president of the country - more than a few nuts

President Maithripala Sirisena complained that during his recent trip with SriLankan Airlines he accepted several cashew nuts not suitable for human consumption.

Airlines have been plagued by corruption allegations in recent years and are currently being investigated by a special presidential investigation committee.

Mr. Sirisena said in a speech at a farmer's event held in southern Sri Lanka on Monday that last week it offered a problematic product for the flight from Nepal's capital Kathmandu to Colombo, Sri Lanka.

"When I returned from Nepal, they ate some cashew nuts on the airplane, not to mention the people who approved them, even the dogs," he told a group of farmers in southern Sri Lanka .

Four years ago, a senior manager of a Korean airline company returned the plane to the door after the airline hostess attempted to serve her with a pack of macadamia nuts rather than on a dish.

Cho Yang-ho's daughter, Heather Cho, the company's boss was convicted of violating aircraft safety crimes later, released several months later and was sentenced to probation.
