Introduction to Religion Religion is an important aspect of early mental health practice research. Religion is important for as many as 75% of the population and is deeper and more relevant to people over the age of 65 (Richards and Bergin, 1997). Religion plays an extremely important role for the elderly, which is part of their identity and personality (Koenig, Siegler & George, 1989). According to Koenig (1989), religion incorporates people's rituals, beliefs and customs about "transcendence". This means that these beliefs are related to the supernatural and mysterious elements of the world (Koenig, Siegler & George, 1989).

Despite thousands of years of discussion there is little agreement on the meaning of spirituality and religion. Spirituality and religion are often used interchangeably, but there are important differences. Spirituality is expressed as a person's experience or belief in addition to its own existence. It is also described as an individual search for meaning (Bown & Williams, 1993). Little is known about spirituality outside a religious context. Because it is difficult if not impossible to define the concept as amorphous (Booth, 1995). Spirituality may exist in man, but it is eventually separated from him or her. It is a relationship and connection with power and power, but this power and power is not necessarily God. Not everyone who claims to be spiritual is not necessarily a religious believer, and even believes in God.

Spirituality and religion can be regarded as related concepts, but they are not identical. People can express spirituality through religion, but spirituality is often thought to be more broadly related to nature, the universe, and higher powers, but it is not necessarily directly. Spirituality may include more generous beliefs and customs than organizational religion, but may also include meditation, yoga, dance, and so on. Religion is often more formalized, believes that religious believers usually belong to a specific belief or agree with a specific belief.

Religion is an organized, community-based belief system that exists among individuals and they personally think. "The concept of religion and spirituality is not a square but a rectangle, it is spiritual in religion but if you have spirituality it is not necessarily a religious belief It is not. " Both religion and spirituality have a positive effect on mental health. In a sense, they give the same effect. For example, both religion and spirituality can help people to endure stress by creating peace, purpose, and forgiveness. However, because of its different nature, the advantages of both are usually different.
