Spiritual Guidance: Non-Violent Campaign

In the early 1960s, the most persecuted African Americans worshiped God. Many people grew up in Baptist churches, so beliefs are considered indispensable in this era. By Christian faith, the Negro believed that God would dominate and learned to believe. Spiritual guidance is particularly important for maintaining peace, but the same can be said for leaders. Martin Luther King is the leader. "The core of the king's strategy is nonviolence" (Adwan). He uses his nonviolent way and firm beliefs to pour the word of God into others; this reminds people that change will come.

Martin Luther King Jr. conducted a non-violence campaign at Birmingham, Alabama. Birmingham is one of the few cities and the fourth step of King's nonviolent campaign theory is called "direct action". Unfortunately, King was sentenced as a protest at Birmingham from 12 to 20 April 1963, violating the court's ban. When Kim was imprisoned, eight Alabama clergy released statements criticizing the use of "direct action" and called this method "wise and out of date." During his imprisonment King carefully answered their statements in a letter entitled "Birmingham City Prison".
