Spiritual Growth in the Epic of Gilgamesh, Homer's Odyssey, and Dante's Inferno

For centuries, the authors have written stories about human self discovery journeys. For over 3000 years, Gilgamesh epic, Homer's Odyssey, Dante's hell are three stories, a self-discovery journey is at its center. The protagonists Gilgamesh, Telemacos, Dante finally went on a journey to change them. The journey may not be exactly the same, but they share a common set of events.

.... Gilgamesh is an epic about the adventure and role development of the young king with superhuman powers. It is similar in some respects to the later epic like such Homer's Iliad and Odyssey. For example, Gilgamesh and Iliad each focus on a hero with abnormal physical fitness. (In Iliad, Superman is Achilles). Furthermore, in Gilgamesh and Odyssey, each of the protagonists crossed the ocean and fought against monsters and explored the magical lands. In all three epic, the mythical gods played an important role, but it is set to the real land - Gilgamesh, Mesopotamia (now Iraq), and Iriad will enter the city wall Troy (today) Turkey Odyssey of countries and islands in countries outside the Mediterranean

There are few really amazing epics in Western literature. Among them, Gilgamesh's epic is by far the oldest. The standard version of epic a few centuries ago before Homer's Iliad and Odyssey. The story of Gilgamesh's behavior is much greater than that of the times, and may be the worship of Gilgamesh as from the ancient worship religion of around 2600 BC. But what does it mean to call Gilgamesh "epic"? The epic form itself can sometimes trace back to Homer and defines five common features for the epic: 1) There are significant countries or globally important heroes; 2) There is a huge canvas , One is a whole world or a larger environment 3) Plot includes fight including Superman's action and a long and difficult journey, 4) Gods and other supernatural creatures are included with interest, 5) There is a ceremonial performance aspect, a ritual style than ordinary words. In Gilgamesh, there is an earlier story than Homer who satisfies all these criteria.
