Specific Deterrence vs. General Deterrence, Definitions

Identification 1) Specific deterrence and general deterrence: The purpose of punishing and intimidating civilians is to reduce, or at least limit, the frequency of social criminal activity in deterrence. The sole purpose of deterrence is to stop potential violations of people by inserting fear. Specific deterrence force applies only to individuals who are subject to certain types of punishment and ultimately fears that he / she will be punished again in the future when considering crime.

When assessing whether deterrence is effective it is important to distinguish between general deterrence and specific deterrence. The general deterrence is the concept that everyone who is punished by law is an example of other people who are considering the same illegal acts. The specific deterrence power is the concept that an individual punished by law does not commit a crime any more in order to "learn the lesson". Repeatance means recidivism. In other words, people punished by the criminal justice system tend to re-attack at a very high rate. Some critics also believe that reasonable choice theory does not go well. They believe that the passionate crimes and criminal acts committed by people infected with drugs and alcohol are not the result of a reasonable cost-benefit analysis.

There are two basic forms of deterrence: general deterrence and specific deterrence. Specific deterrence is designed to prevent perpetrators from committing such crimes in the future (deterrence theory, nd, p. 233). Deterrence is generally designed to prevent crimes committed by ordinary people. Therefore, the punishment of offenders by criminals is an example of other people in the general population who have not yet participated in criminal cases (deterrence theory, nd, p. 233). Some people may morally support deterrence against retaliation based on general deterrence, but they do not just try to hurt those who commit crimes, but simply try to prevent them. Overall deterrence, research showed that genes may or may cause criminal behavior (Daily reporter, November 2010). With this in mind, it is right to punish individuals for taking actions that might exceed their control.
