Speaking of courage, Tim O'Brien emphasizes the difficult struggle the postwar soldiers are trying to integrate themselves with the American society. Dr. Decker said in class that the trials and hardships of Paul Berlin proved "a major position in American citizen culture". American society does not allow soldiers we send back to combat as soldiers. Courage is based on Paul's experience after the Vietnam War, but the influence of civil culture can be seen throughout history.

What is courage is what makes a hero a reality? These are the questions raised by Fred Collins at the question, which the hero Paul proposed in "Talk of courage" and "Mystery of heroes". Paul and Collins are in different wars, different eras, different places, but the war is still a war and tortures people for the rest of his life. They saw a friend killed in front of them. Men become machines and their machines become their closest friends. Collins was a private man in the civil war, everything he wanted was only glasses with water. His comrades mocked him about how thirsty he was, and indignation towards his ridicule urged him to risk his life as drinking a bite of water. He was called a hero with a ridiculous danger. Is this really making a hero? Foolish and companion pressure? Even Collins wondered why he was recognized as a hero at the end of the story.

Such a common word "COURAGE". Since we were children, we told the story of courage and heroism. We read a poem about courage. The courage of the great Alexandre, Napoleon, and Hitler also was full of courage. Romeo and Juliet, Lyra and Mayu, Gandhi, Courage of Martin Luther King. It is said that all great men are full of courage. I have not seen these people, so I always have difficulty understanding the courage through their story. I do not understand that killing so many people and dominating the world makes you brave or embarrasses the empire. The way to die for love and equality encourages you. People around me are in love with each other, but of course they will not die for it, except for the situation of "honor killing". In addition to terrorism, extreme socialism, and criminal capitalism, they certainly will not murder. Except for the Middle East and African coup, the empire never loses.
