The incident that caused contemporary debate in Spain was the case of Chile 's dictator Pinochet. The basis of the discussion was the stability of Spain's democracy and the preparation of a new generation of politicians who did not participate in the Franco administration directly or indirectly. Another fear of civil war has also calmed down. Pinochet was arrested in London in 1998 at the request of the Spanish Judicial Court.
