Sophie Treadwell’s "Machinal"

Sophie Treadwell's Machinal is an expressionist drama written in 1928 based on the actual trial and execution of Ruth Snyder. * Machinal tells a story about how the young spirit of young women suffocated in the harsh industry of the 1920s. If done in a magnificent theater style, Machinal can present totally different meaning, especially for today's audience. When a magnificent theater was performed, Machinal now reflects the satisfaction and inanimate of the people who live in modern America.

In Sophie Treadwell's "Machinal", the problem of constraint and repression is paralyzed. This play, which was held at the Long Beach State University Theater on 13th October, is exploring the universality of unbelievers through Helen's (April - Sigma - Marx) battle over autonomy. Helen was a tragic personality from the beginning. She is limited to the role of daughter and worker. When she gets married to her boss (Tom Trudgeon) she is dissatisfied with her life, she must become a wife and mother. This eventually encouraged her to feel uncomfortable and to take the final desperate action to get rid of this world slowly crushing her.

This can be clearly shown by comparing two different lives, but with those same happiness, one is leaning upward over time to increase happiness throughout their lives. Other lives are constantly leaning downward. Happiness is equal, but the first person's life seems more satisfying. There is always good expectation in the future, things are always getting better.

I will introduce it later when expressionism first succeeds in American society and drama (like "Martyr" in Sophie Tre de Well)). Personal reaction in field sports thinks the reason for negative reaction is a little "simple." When America first appeared in the performance drama, it was only popular in Europe, so the sudden appearance of expressionism may be shocking but I think the American drama (and still so) is still very I can relieve that it is important. As a script for playing in Europe, the problem to be dealt with is different according to "not so important" critic, but personally, I feel as if it were "premature" . Problems to be addressed in the future society
