Sonny’s Blues and Ray Charles

Everyone has a definition of my dream. The meaning of a dream has no doubt, I am passionate about what I want to do. According to Merriam-Webster's dictionary, the definitions of the two dreams are "a strong desired goal or purpose" and "what fully satisfies hope". "Sonny's Blues" is a story about two brothers who walked towards their direction in their life, but tried to find the meaning of their life. The short story "Sony's Blues" and musicians Ray Charles depicted ambitious musicians facing poverty and family difficulties when they tried to realize their dreams they were impossible.

The story of "Sonny's Blues" shows how African-American family life has grown between 1930 and 1960. Black Americans strive to leave a mark on society. When I struggled to understand how the African-American culture survived during this period I thought about the life of a wonderful blind musician Ray Charles. Sonny and Ray Charles have lots of the same life experiences, especially depending on medicine to live in a society where the black people work hard in order to forget their past and to make a living. Both of us are gaining respect from families and friends using rhythm and blues music.

Ray Charles is an American singer-songwriter, a musician, and a composer who combined rhythms with blues, gospel, and blues in the early 1950's recordings. In the 1960s, we succeeded in ethnically fusing country music and pop music through crossover. Ray Charles was one of the first African American musicians who controlled the mainstream record label art. Like Elvis, his influence on music is mostly jazz, blues, rhythm, blues, then country artist. Ray's "Georgia on My Mind" version became Georgia's official song. He was one of the first winners to enter the rock'n'roll hall of fame and received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

One of the greatest African-American artists in the history of Ray Charles. He left legacy popular songs and Grammy awards, but like music he arranged, played and recorded music, the musicians he influenced were very diverse in terms of music style. Ray Charles died of acute liver disease at the age of 73 on June 10, 2004.
