In the United States last year, five million women and 850,000 men were beaten by intimate partners and many children were abused by their parents. These tragic crimes will continue to increase in our society unless our community acts to stop these crimes. First of all, the most important tools we provide for such crimes are authorities, including police departments, hospitals, and social workers.

Treatment and rehabilitation seems to be a viable solution to the problem of domestic violence, but before most criminal justice experts accept it, they have to overcome many obstacles. Local communities and criminal justice experts are concerned about the outcome of these programs and are reluctant to accept them as an acceptable means of dealing with domestic violence. The myth of cost problems is also a barrier to the success of these programs. These myths on therapeutic options must be better addressed by attackers and their victims before providing better and more diverse solutions.
