Solon's laws

The legal, constitutional and judicial reform of Solon was proposed twenty years after Athens politician and poet Solon, who served as governor (governor of the year) in 594 BC. Following the conflict of Athens between the nobility of the land and farmers in the early sixth century, Solon was asked to arbitrate unjustifiable injustices, even middle class craftsmen, merchants, farmers could not participate.

Solon's economic reform is called "removing the burden" and resolves the debt, which is one of the direct causes of the crisis. All debts were canceled, the debtor of the slaves was released, and the safety of the forbidden person was borrowed. Solon further strengthens the Athens economy by promoting the trade and industrial development of Attica. He banned the export of other products besides olive oil, scraped off Athens' new currency with more general criteria, reformed the measurement standards, and admitted citizenship of immigration craftsmen.

The reform also affected the political structure of Athens. Solon's Constitution is based on four classes, determined by census and wealth. Although the privilege at birth was eliminated, Sauron maintained a hierarchical distribution of political responsibility.

Solon's law is an alternative to Draco's strict law, except those related to murder. He introduced two important changes to judicial practices: Any Athenian - can make a lawsuit and can provide some degree of control over judge 's decision by the right to appeal to a civil court.

Solon's law is engraved on a large wooden plate or pillar that is attached to a series of vertical axes of Prytaneion. These axes function in the same way as Lazy Susan, making storage and operation easier. Original axon records of Draco's Law in the second half of the 7th century (traditionally 621 BC). Apart from the law concerning murder, Draco has not compiled anything, but scholars agree that it is not equal to the constitution. Solon abolished all draco laws except those related to murder. During his visit to Athens, the 2nd century geographer Pausanius reported that Solon's inscription was still presented by Prytaneion. In the Plutarch era, shaft fragments are still visible, but the only record of today's Solon 's Law is a fragment reference and comment in a literary source like that written by Plutarch himself.

It is impossible to review all laws caused by Solon. The following laws were chosen to give students a wide range of laws and an understanding of how some of these laws address practical problems in agricultural society. These laws should be discussed with students when covering this part of the unit. The law enacted by Solon is written in the Board of Directors. All major citizens vowed to publicly defend them.
