Solid Waste Management

We need a policy to control the actions taken and how it should be implemented. As a result, many plans and policies concerning solid waste management are in place. However, sometimes the policy is inadequate and its negative impact may outweigh the positive impact. According to the Canadian Conference Committee's report, "Canadian per capita will dispose of more solid waste than any other country" (2013). In particular, solid waste management has various aspects such as waste packaging and food waste.

Before introducing solid waste management, let's explain the material being managed - solid waste. Solid waste refers to a series of wastes generated by animal and human activities and discarded as unnecessary and useless. Solid waste arises from industrial, residential and commercial activities in specific areas and can be disposed of in various ways. Therefore, reclaimed land is often classified as sanitation, municipality, construction and dismantling or place of industrial waste.

In many cities, solid waste management is inefficient or nonexistent. Solid waste management refers to the proper collection, transfer, recycling and disposal of all discarded solids such as plastics, paper and cardboard, food waste, electronic waste, etc. It also includes industrial waste, typically including pathogens, hospital waste and facility waste. And dangerous and toxic chemicals that require special attention. Municipal waste is usually illegally dumped on the streets, vacant lots, wastelands, drains or rivers. This is often a problem in suburban areas. It is convenient to throw out garbage because there is free space and access to the downtown area is convenient. This may result in contamination of groundwater and surface water and may be used as a source of drinking water. Waste is sometimes collected and transported to a legalized waste disposal site, but these waste disposal sites are not always adequately managed to protect water and groundwater.
