Smart Water Application Technology (SWAT) Initiative

Intelligent irrigation controller is a new technological innovation and attracting national attention. There is great interest in the possibilities of these devices to improve irrigation water management and a wide range of alliances of partners gathered to ensure that technology fulfills expectations and is successfully introduced to the market. The Smart Water Utilization Technology (SWAT) program is an international public project / irrigation industry program designed to achieve excellent landscape water efficiency through application of irrigation technology. SWAT identifies, studies and encourages innovation and related management methods to promote effective water use principles. The SWAT process also includes industry expert groups and irrigation equipment suppliers, in cooperation with major water suppliers by the Irrigation Association (IA).

There are currently two working groups in the SWAT program, the technical team and the market transformation team. The technical team has developed a protection test protocol for climate and sensor based control systems. Irrigation Technology Center (CIT) will help Irrigation Association formulate the agreement. CIT (Fresno State University, California) tests and evaluates irrigation facilities for public and private enterprises. Through grants and donations, CIT has developed a state-of-the-art hydraulic lab to test irrigation equipment. Although CIT is currently the only SWAT testing facility, test protocols can be provided to public or private agencies through the Irrigation Association. Manufacturers can choose to publish their test results by submitting their products for testing. Otherwise it will be considered confidential. Up to now, four intelligent controller products have released test results for review.

Some organizations in the California Smart Controller program, such as EBMUD, are required to post performance reports issued by the SWAT agreement on the SWAT web site and incorporate the technology into their plans. Assistance from the Waterworks Bureau encourages intelligent controller manufacturers to submit (and modify and resubmit) their products in order to test and publish the results. Organizations that meet this requirement will ensure that independent testing provides security and that smart technology will eliminate excessive waste and provide landscape adequate irrigation.

DApp - Distributed application. Applications can be built with a variety of technologies, and block chains with smart contracts are one of them.
