The earliest inscriptions in Sinhala are written on the rock by the Brahhmī letter, dating back to around 200 BC. The official languages and common language are Dhivehi in India - Aryan with some similarities with the ancient Sinhalese El. The first known script to write Dhivehi is the Eveyla akuru script discovered in the history of King (raadhavalhi). After that, a script called Dhives akuru was used for a long time. The current script is called Thaana, written from right to left. Thaana is said to have been introduced during the reign of Mohamed Thakurufaanu. Since the 12th century Arabs have influenced Maldivian language and culture in the middle of the Indian Ocean for conversion to Islam and its intersection. This is due to the long history of trading between the Far East and the Middle East.
