Similarities and differences between Scrum and Atern Introduction Conventional project management methods have proved inefficient and ineffective due to past project management failure rate (Coleman & Verbruggen, 1998; Vinekar, Slinkman, & Nerur, 2006). These failures have led to the emergence of agile project management. Various agile project management methods are designed to improve project management. This research explores the similarities and differences between Scrum and Atern project management method.

It is an agile framework for software projects. It is used to fine-tune traditional methods. The latest version of DSDM is called DSDM Atern. The name Atern is an abbreviation for Arctic Tern - it travels long distances and represents many of the functions of naturally functioning methods such as priority and collaboration. This is the most popular agile framework that focuses specifically on managing tasks in a team-based development environment. Scrum uses iterative and incremental development models with shorter iterations. Scrum is relatively easy to execute, with emphasis on quick and frequent delivery.

An alternative to the Scban board is the Scrum board. It is mainly used by the software development team. Kanban and scrum boards are agile, but there are some essential differences between the two schemes. The focus of Scrum is in the timeline, activities are done according to a fixed time frame. These are called sprints and usually take two weeks. This is time to release a new project. On the other hand, the kanban is promoted not by the time frame but by a continuous completion event until the end of the project.

One of the main differences between Scrum and Kanban is the time limit. When working with kanban, there is usually no clear iteration that requires the completion of functions or MVP (tasks and milestones may have a deadline). However, because it is necessary to arrange dinner, the planner assumes that you need to use the Kanban system and complete all tasks within a week. There is no clear role expectation when using Kanban system. The team can adjust the responsibilities of each team member, but the method itself is determined by a specific task list, and the first person completing the task can select the next task from the list and continue execution.
