Short Story with a computer that saves only relevant information of peoples life story

Please help my uncle find a short story he read in his younger days. When my uncle was a teenager or a young adult, I read a story that defined his life that had a great influence on him (he founded a company that takes care of homeless children)

He no longer has this story, but he really wants to read it again. I would like to find it for him. Since I have not read this story myself, I only know the story from what he told me, so there may be some inaccurate details. I hope that this story can still be found!
