Sherman Alexie and Joy Harjo

As we all know, Native American culture has abundant verbal traditions. Storytelling is only one aspect. However, there seems to be a different view of storytelling among Native American poets in the classroom. In "How to write Great American Fiction", Sherman Aleksey tells stories that have been mainstreamed in stereotyped and mainstream culture, and Joy Harjo seems to think that story with "Deer Dancer". The survival of culture is important. In this article we will study the narrative aspects of these two pieces.

In a short autobiographical story "Joy of reading and writing: Superman and I", an Indian man, Sherman Alexey, is talking about his journey to learn how to read. Sherman Aleksey grew up in an Indian settlement in eastern Washington State. His family was considered extremely poor in American society, but when he was detained he came from a middle class family. This shows how difficult it is to protect lives and how much poverty is there. I do not remember how he learned how to pronounce, but he knows that he is three years old. His father is passionate about reading and will buy cheap books from pawnbrokers, salvation armed forces and other cheap shops. It was erased on Alexie who was about to "read" the book his father had. He learned the verses and then began to tie everything in the world with them. He grew up in Spokane's Indian Settlement and was forced to neglect school and study, yet he worked hard to save his life.

Sherman Aleksey wrote "Joy of Reading and Writing: Superman and I" in order to let the reader know about the challenge he faced as a young Indian boy and should not be educated by social standards. Alexis uses his personal experience as a young and intelligent Indian to express his view. Love for his book arises from his love and worship for his father. At the age of three, Alexei remembered how he taught himself how to read himself by analyzing Superman's cartoon book. Let's tell stories by making stories with pictures. Then he continued to realize the purpose of the paragraph, saying "Paragraph is a fence containing text". Alexie then saw everything like this. By using the method he created, it made it possible for him to gain reading knowledge.
