It is a bad idea to run two rechargeable batteries not in line in parallel. The same thing can be done with alkaline dry batteries, but it is not extreme of rechargeable batteries. If you use a perfectly matched battery, even two NiMH batteries can do a good job, but it is impractical to keep track of whether the two batteries really fit.

What I am doing now is running with just one battery. NiMH battery with less self-discharge (Sanyo Enelope etc.) is used.
