Student sexual harassment is illegal. Federal law of 1972 Education revision, Chapter IX (title IX) prohibits discrimination based on sex, including sexual harassment, in educational programs and activities. All public and private educational institutions receiving financial assistance from the federal government must comply with title IX. Chapter 9 will protect students from harassment related to academic, educational, extracurricular, sports and other school programs and activities regardless of location. Chapter 9 protects girls and students from sexual harassment by school employees, other students, or third parties other than employees.
