Over the years there were several terms to explain the world of music. Some of these terms are sonata form, polyphony, and word painting. Terminology in the 20th century seems to be the most commonly used term. Because they are more modern than the above terms. These terms are Impressionism, Expressionism, Minimalism. There are various composers who perform these terms in their music. Claude Debusy uses Impressionism, Arnold Schoenberg uses Expressionism, Steve Reich uses Minimalism.
This term is also considered a music classification that combines Western pop music style and many non-Western music types (also called fork music or folk music). However, world music is not limited to traditional folk music. It may also include state-of-the-art pop music style. In a nutshell, it can be described as "local music from there" or "local music of other people". This is a very ambiguous term, more and more genres belong to the music world (examples cited in this section) to capture the musical trend of ethnic style and texture including Western elements
Folk music includes the genre evolved from the 20th century between traditional folk music and the Renaissance. Some folk music has something also called world music. Traditional folk music has many definitions. Oral speaking music, unknown composer's music, or music that has been played for a long time by custom. It is in sharp contrast to business and classical style. This term began in the 19th century, folk music spreads beyond this. Since the middle of the 18th century, a new form of popular folk music has evolved from traditional folk music. This process and period is called the (third) folk renaissance and peaked in the 1960s. Music of this form is sometimes called contemporary folk music or folk revival music to distinguish it from the earlier folk style. At other times there were smaller, similar resurrections elsewhere in the world, but the term folk music is not normally applied to new music made during the resurrection.
In contrast to popular music and folk music, art music is a common term that is often used to express music that has been carefully bred in Western society in particular. Art music is a term covering the tradition of music, combining high structural and theoretical considerations with written tradition of music. Classical music is the main tradition in Western countries. Art music has two extensions, serious music or light music. Since ancient times, the kind of art music existed with other music, developed from the Middle Ages to the present age. As time has brought about significant changes and differences in each generation, there is no outstanding style feature.
