Secret Sin and Seclusion

"Young Goodman Brown" and "The Minister's Black Veil" are two short stories by Nathaniel Hawthorne exploring the importance of Puritan's belief in the early American town. Despite the religious influence, sin and corruption spread even to the members of the most respected community. Both heroes know the tendency of humans to conceal their sins, but when young Goodman Brown focuses on the faults of others, Father Hooper is concerned about his parish teacher's beliefs.
