The second Sudanese civil war was a conflict between the Sudanese central government and the Sudanese People's Liberation Army between 1983 and 2005. It was mainly the continuation of the first Sudanese civil war between 1955 and 1972. Beginning in the southern Sudan, the civil war spread to the Nuva Mountains and the Blue Nile River. It lasted 22 years and was one of the longest civil wars in history. In six years after the end of the war, the war led to the independence of South Sudan.

About 2 million people died of war, famine, illness caused by the conflict. 4 million people in South Sudan were evacuated at least once (usually repeatedly) during the war. The number of deaths of civilians has been one of the highest in all wars since the Second World War and is characterized by massive infringement of human rights. Including slavery and mass slaughter

However, the conclusion of the first Sudanese civil war in 1972 failed to completely eliminate the tension that was originally brought, resulting in the revival of the North-South conflict in the second Sudanese civil war between 1983 and 2005. Thus, between 1955 and 2005, it was sometimes considered as a single confrontation, and the 11 year cease-fire divided the two stages of violence. Until 1946, the British government was cooperating with the Egyptian government to manage South Sudan and North Sudan as separate areas (according to the arrangement of apartment management). At this point, the two regions were integrated into one administrative area as part of the UK Middle East strategy.
