Bell (2007) wrote an interesting article about the tool - she said - every searcher or librarian should need it. Boolean operator, controlled vocabulary, field search, proximity search, truncation, restriction, and "pearl farming". (2007, p.1) The tool she first discussed was a Boolean value instructing the system to associate the search term with the way the searcher wishes. The Boolean operators used are AND (+), OR and AND NOT, or NOT (-). Pass minus sign or hyphen (-). An AND leads to the intersection of two collections, and OR represents the connection of two collections (actually one or both are acquired). We never miss records containing words that searchers do not want.
