Scott Joplin (1868-1917) Scott Joplin was generally known as "King of Ragtime" and was born in 1868 near Linden, Bowie County, Texas. Joplin is from a large musician. His father, Giles Joplin, was a musician who performed dance music while playing slave's role at the host party. His mother, Florence Gibbs Joplin, was born freely, enslaved, sung and played the banjo, and his four brothers and sisters sang or played strings. Joplin 's talent was revealed at a very young age.

Classically trained pianist Scott Joplin produced "Original Rags" in 1898 and in 1899 he created an international hit song called "Maple Leaf Rag".
