Science And Magic: Is There A Relationship?

Last night, I had dinner with my colleague at the Dartmouth Religion Ministry. Then an interesting conversation took place between science and magic relations. Here, I am not talking about magical techniques like rabbits with hats, cards or coins, but I am talking about the meaning of more supernatural "magic". Of course, at first glance I think that these two are completely opposite and even opposite. My colleague Ehud Beno published an interesting statement that Jewish philosophy and mysticism scholar, "Science is trying to make magic a reality".

I accepted this and began thinking what he meant. Then I suddenly realized that he had points. Consider the list of next magic virtues (please add as you like):

* See invisible things: Through our instruments, we see a very small world and a very big world. We also saw all invisible radiation, infrared, ultraviolet light and radio waves surrounding us.

* Telecom: You can connect with people anywhere on Earth through radio, phone, mobile phone. blog!

The list is very long. I saw Ehud's view very clearly. Science makes magic a reality. Of course, the difference is that power is not directly from us but from our creativity and tools. Therefore, science makes us a magician by integrating ideas, body and tools; we have technology rather than magic staff to help performance skills. As the great physicist Michael Faraday wrote, as long as it follows the laws of nature there is nothing wonderful, that can not be true.

Therefore, the relationship between science and magic is bidirectional. While scientists study magicians and their crafts to learn more about the world around us, magicians use science to create supernatural magical illusions. Because magic and science are opposite each other, there seems to be no relationship between magic and science, but there are many things in common. The drama fantasy suggested by the magician seems to be in violation of the laws of physics science, but they often use these and other scientific principles to create these illusions. Scientists are very interested in magic because they try to better understand this unique performing arts. Therefore, the relationship between science and magic is bidirectional. Scientists often describe the relationship between magic and science, not the relationship between them. In this view, the magician beat the laws of physics. They can change the world in ways ordinary people can not change. Our mind is used to seeing the world as a causal linkage. It is impossible in our daily life to read someone's idea, destroy a pretty girl without hurting, or to erase the coin without causal relationship between action and result. This viewpoint is the opposite of magic and science, and it is human's two incompatible efforts.
