Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (Zurich Federal Institute of Technology; German: EidgenössischeTechnischeHochschuleZürich) is a university of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in Zurich, Switzerland. Like its sister organization EPFL, it is part of the Swiss Federal Technology Area (ETH Domain) and is directly affiliated with the Swiss Federal Ministry of Economics and Education. Founded in 1854 by the Swiss Federal Government, the mission of this school is to educate engineers and scientists as an excellent base for national science and technology, and to establish a center of interaction between the scientific community and industry.

Throughout the Federal Government, these institutions coordinate the efforts of nanotechnology through the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI). According to the National Nanotechnology Initiative's Clayton Teague, one of the goals of NNI is to establish a research program to understand the social, ethical, health and environmental impact of technology. Working group, Center of Excellence, and workshop sponsored by NNI are working on this goal.
