Lesson 1 - Difference between material properties / material characteristics and definition Activity Sheet.pdf

This resource is for high grade students and includes ideas and worksheets of activities to support materials and their attributes. They cover many aspects of the present subject matter, including comparing the properties of different materials, separating the material mixture depending on the nature of the material, irreversible and reversible changes, and melting and freezing of different materials . It also includes an evaluation form on the subject. Resources are posted on the website in the form provided first. In other words, this program reflects the common practices and standards that apply when generating resources, and is considered unacceptable today. It is the sole responsibility of the user of the website to confirm that activities (including actual work) performed by them comply with current health and safety regulations and that appropriate risk assessment is being conducted.

The core theory behind material science involves linking the microstructure of a material to the physical and chemical properties of its macromolecules. By understanding the microstructure and then changing it, material scientists can customize attributes and create custom or new materials with specific properties for specific applications. Material scientists are hired by companies that manufacture metal, ceramic and rubber products. They are also working on coatings (development of new coating grades) and the biopharmaceutical industry (design of prosthetic materials and implant materials to conform to human tissues). Other important areas are polymers (including biopolymers), composite materials (heterogeneous materials consisting of two or more materials), superconducting materials, graphite materials, integrated circuit chips and fuel cells.
