Scars of Sethe and Paul D in Toni Morrison's Beloved

The scars of "loveable wound" and Paul D are definitely wonderful ways to tell the story of "loved ones". Whatever happens, no matter what happens, these marks are another visible history of tracking them wherever they go. These physical characteristics are what people can believe, not what they say or write. If the written and spoken language is unreliable many times, the physical characteristics provide a more reliable form of communication, a form of communication that can not be biased or changed.

Some of my students have read Toni Morrison's "beloved" with this unique lens.
