As an example of refining and shipping innovation, we will look at Chevron's refinery in Richmond, California. Built on a low hill extending from the San Francisco Bay, this refinery was completed in July 1902 and then became the largest and most advanced factory on the west coast. This new factory, which is a red brick building complex, has 19 still life spans that can handle 10,000 bops in the first year of operation. Today, the Richmond refinery handles approximately 250,000 barrels and is supported by thousands of technical systems. More importantly, evolution continues as we are preparing to further modernize our facility by replacing the old equipment to make a newer, safer and cleaner Richmond Refinery
