Satire in the Eighteenth Century

Ironically new ideas of the 18th century, original ideas, and new interpretations all embody the spirit of the 18th century. Science is booming, so it brings new discoveries to challenge traditional religious control. The influential people of this era such as Voltaire, Jonathan Swift, William Hogarth, etc. are trying to ensure human improvement and human thought through criticism of truth and humor. They use satire to achieve common goals.

Jonathan Swift is undoubtedly one of the best satirists of the 18th century. Among his writings, he proposed irony social criticism of sneering rape, social and religious norms of Irish society using irony and exaggeration.
