Sam Shepard’s True West

Sam Shepard's true western brotherly love is a wonderful thing. As a child, two brothers can play cowboy and Indians with playmates at any time, or brothers visit cookies on the counter. As they grow they will help someone start their car's engines or lead them inside and outside the relationship. However, the older brother can become a bully of the inhabitant. The elderly makes it possible for young people to eat worms and to enter an embarrassing situation for personal entertainment. Brothers can be best friends or the worst enemies.

Sam Shepard 's play "Zhengxi" (1980) combines humor and tragedy to explore the identity of dysfunctional families, especially the identity of the American border and the mythical freedom it represents. In a theater outside Los Angeles, two brothers, a successful Hollywood script writer, and a thief sat for a mother during a vacation in Alaska. During the time they spent together, the two brothers quarreled, drank too much, and almost destroyed the house as they competed to make a screenplay. The true West side solves the way that a materialistic society promotes the lawlessness and desire for freedom, even if this feeling of freedom is still elusive

"Real West" depicts the collapse of the promised American dreams; Sam Shepard shows the alternative of roles between Austin and Lee - domestic Americans and barbarian Americans . "The real west" shows the necessity of 'reality' in the world that forgot its true meaning. These characters wish to make a change in their lives as they strive to achieve their dreams.
