Contrary to popular literary research, French fairy tales may not accurately describe the lives of farmers in the 17th century. At Dorothy Thelander's "Goose Mother and Her Goslings" she believes that these stories are actually a mixture of "folklore literature and luxury literature" (Thelander 35). These stories are better suited for the two stories of Thelander 34. They have both peasant elements and bourgeois elements and are more representative of authors' writing environments. Writers like Perrault and d'Aulnoy come from bourgeoisie, so their traditional fairy tale version reflects the social value of nobility literature salons, not difficulties and taboos.
