St. Theresa of Avila Teresa de Ahumada y Cepeda, the full name of Santa Teresa, was born in Avila, Castile, Spain on March 28, 1515. Her father Don Alonso Sanchez de Cepeda remarried, his second wife, Dona Beatriz de Ahumada, and Teresa is the third of the nine children. Her father is a respected person of the Jew, Ávila and was excluded from the obligations of many Spanish nations and religious groups due to his ethnic purity.
