Rubens Gerchman

Rubens Geman (10th January 1942, Rio de Janeiro [1] - January 29th 2008) [2] is a Brazilian painter and sculptor. He is strongly influenced by concrete art and new concrete. [3]

Many of Gerchman's works are based on populist themes and his political beliefs, which follow the work of new concrete artists. The sculpture of his letter is derived from a specific poem. [3]

Gaman learned at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro. In the 1960 's, his work focused on popular culture. He used the face of the news photograph, but unlike Andy Warhol, who uses infamous celebrities, he used images of anonymous characters. These faces are copied as multiple comic style painting images

In the late 1960s, Gaman worked hard to separate urban areas and alienation.
