Romanticism Romanticism was a flourishing art movement that flourished in Europe and America during the French Revolution for most of the 19th century. Romantic artists make nature beautiful, idealize the past, and celebrate God of creation. Freedom of self-expression, honesty, spontaneity, originality is basically emphasized. Movement is against classicalism and artists look to inspiration for subject and artistic style.
