Role of the School Safety Patrol

Members of AAA School Security Patrol are students organized by high school, junior high school, junior high school.

The tour guides the children, not traffic. As a school-age leader in traffic safety, patrol members will teach other students road safety to each other. They will also serve as a role model for young children looking after children.

Normally, teachers and principals appoint patrol members to participate with parental consent. The teacher usually works as a patrol consultant. Local law enforcement officials may also be involved in your patrol

The AAA School Safety Patrol plays a very important role in securing the safety of thousands of schoolchildren throughout the AAA South Jersey Region. Respected patrol takes the huge responsibility and stands at the top by demonstrating excellence and leadership. Historically, AAA School Security Patrol was one of the oldest programs in AAA, with over 600,000 children participating in this program. This prize will be awarded to the top three participants. The winning boy or girl will be presented with a shield that will continue to each ticket to Wildwood's Molly Pier, Great Adventure, Sahara Sam, and Di Grande. In addition, AAA South Jersey commemorates that opportunity with pizza and soft drinks for the winner's class. Schools will receive free patrol tools (up to 25 sets of belts and badges) and plaques designated as home for 2014-15 year security patrols.

The Chicago Auto Club led the concept of school safety patrols in 1920 due to the increase in car usage and the subsequent welfare of the students. In 1921, Sao Paulo City, Minnesota Province was the first nationwide city to commence school patrol patrol. Sao Paulo School Police force sergeant Frank Hetznecker introduced the Sam Browne belt to the school police. The belts of Sam Browne buckled on the waist and shoulders, and the school police handed them a badge. They are characteristic of school patrols and are usually sent to participants throughout the United States. Omaha police in Omaha, Nebraska, started the first security patrol in the United States in 1923. Youth security patrol was established in Seattle, Washington in 1928, Captain George W. Kimball of the Seattle Police Department hosted the youth security patrol of the city. Retired as Director from 1928 to 1961
