Roger Maris is probably one of baseball's most misunderstood baseball heroes. Even after nearly 40 years, Maris still has no legal status in the baseball history, baseball hall of fame. Roger Maris grew up in Hibbing, Minnesota and grew up in Fargo, North Dakota. His young life is filled with athletic ability. He is good at not only baseball but also many sports. Roger is wealthy both football and truck. His baseball career started in 1957 at the Cleveland Indian, which was traded to the Kansas City stadium in 1958.
Kirkpatrick reported that Roger Maris took part in the 1962 experiment. He used five different new bats to hit a distance ranging from 33 to 47 ounces. He struck five long flying balls in each bat, measured the distance, and related it with the weight of the bat. A heavier bat leads to a farther distance on average. But Maris's favorite bat (who once broke Babe Ruth's home run record) is the lightest ball, but the distance to the flying ball is the shortest. Mark McKay hit a 70 ounce home run with a 35 ounce bat in 1998, while Barry Bond hit his 73 home run with a 32 ounce bat in 2001. Most major league players are using 31-35 ounces bat today.
Other wonderful batters include Ted Williams, Rod Carew and Stan Musial who are using lighter bats: 31-33 oz In 1961, Roger Maris hit 61 home runs with 33 ounces bat. Many players attempt to make the bats lighter by drilling holes in the barrels and filling them with cork. In 1961 Norm Cash of the Detroit Tigers won an average of 0.361 batting average and acknowledged that they used the stuffed bat in 1961 (though the same plug next year also fell to 0.243 ). However, Maris's favorite bat (he once defeated Beberus' s home run record) is producing the shortest distance of the flying ball, but it is the lightest set.
