Robert E. Lee Throughout history, the names and faces of some people became synonyms with the era of their life. For example, Julius Caesar is synonymous with the Republic of the late Roman era, George Washington is a synonym for the American Revolutionary War. Like these two people, the name Robert E. Lee became synonymous with the American Civil War. Lee not only became the most important and most knowledgeable person in the Confederate Army, but also became a hero of contemporary Americans during wartime and after the war.

For some people, Robert Lee is almost like a god. For others, he is a paradox. Robert E. Lee was born on January 19, 1807 at Stratford, Virginia.
