Born in Virginia on January 19, 1807 Robert Lee was born at Stratford Manor in Westmoreland, Virginia. Lee is the son of Henry 'Light Horse Harry', the hero of the revolutionary war. In 1825, Robert entered the US military academy. In 1829, he won second place among 46 graders alumni. Lee has the best academic record and he has not recorded his record. After graduation he was appointed lieutenant of the engineering team. When he was stationed in Fort Monroe in 1831, he married Mary Anna Randolph Curtis.
